Bespoke vs standard and high-end kitchen cost

A standard new kitchen costs £10,550 on average, from £5,250 for a small kitchen to £28,400 for a large one, in Checkatrade’s new kitchen cost guide. A high-end kitchen often costs £30,000 to £55,000, on the same guide’s figures.

Bespoke cabinetry and appliance costs

Bespoke cabinetry costs £12,000 to £25,000, with an average of £18,500, on Checkatrade’s figures. Appliances cost around £10,000 at low to mid-range and up to £50,000 or more at the top of the range, with an average of £30,000, in the same guide.

The £30,000 average for appliances is higher than the £18,500 average for cabinetry in Checkatrade’s table, so the appliances you choose can cost more than the made-to-measure cabinets themselves.

Kitchen design service cost

A kitchen consultant’s design costs £50 to £750, with an average of £400, on Checkatrade’s figures. A designer is not mandatory for a bespoke kitchen, the same guide says, so paying for a design service is your choice.

Fitting a bespoke kitchen costs around £275 a day for two people on Checkatrade’s figures, because jobs like this are often done in pairs, and the day rate in the same table runs from £250 to £300. Fitting takes around 10 to 15 days, so at around £275 a day the fitting comes to £2,750 to £4,125 on Checkatrade’s figures.

Bespoke items can be more difficult to fit, so Checkatrade’s bespoke kitchen guide strongly recommends choosing a kitchen fitting specialist.

A kitchen fitter provides a dry fit, building and fitting the units and all the kitchen furniture, including the sink, taps, appliances and fittings, Checkatrade’s kitchen fitting cost guide says. The dry fit stops short of connecting the appliances to the mains supplies or setting them up for use.

Checkatrade’s bespoke kitchen guide allows around six months for the whole project, from design and planning to delivery, installation and finishing touches. The fitting takes around 10 to 15 days of that time.
